Gérald Genta
Gérald Genta was born in Geneva on May 1, 1931. After completing his apprenticeship as a goldsmith, he went into business as a watch designer, establishing a profession that had not previously existed. His legendary steel luxury sports watches with fully integrated bracelets, defined a product category unknown to the Swiss watch industry in the 1970s.

The ergonomics of the case and bracelet have been carefully reworked and improved to the smallest detail. The 40-millimetre case and the newly engineered middle-link attachment ensure excellent wearability, even on a slender wrist. The characteristic round bezel is screwed onto the casing ring with five polygonal screws. The blue dial features the distinctive “Grid” structure, which consists of small lines offset to each other by 90 degrees.

IWC Polaris Dawn watches auctioned to benefit St. Jude
On September 10, 2024, the Polaris Dawn crew launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on a five-day mission to space. Along for the journey were four IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Editions Polaris Dawn (Ref. IW389111), each engraved with an astronaut’s name. Now back on Earth, these watches were auctioned at Christie’s in New York, with proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
