THE JOY OF SKATEBOARDING
— Timing is everything when skateboarding
After joining IWC’s take-over of Jungle Plaza for the Miami Grand Prix™, what did you take away from those days?
Yes, what an amazing opportunity that was. My biggest take away was not only how amazing the other athletes, ambassadors and friends of the brand are, but the togetherness of the IWC family and staff was unreal.
What does community give-back involvement mean to you?
Being able to give back to my community has been the most fulfilling act I’ve experienced. Giving skateboards and teaching skateboarding has been my and my family’s objective since the start. I’m so grateful we get the opportunity to help and spread the joy of skateboarding.
Share one or two unforgettable moments from your community service experience.
One moment I’ll never forgot was very recent and it was at the IWC take-over at Jungle Plaza. On the last day of the event, I had the privilege of doing a presentation in front of all the kids of Dibia DREAM. At the end of the presentation they all wanted to learn how to skate so I used my board and helped them all learn the basics. The joy on that basketball court, watching them smile and helping them overcome their fears was something out of a movie.
What do you and your watch have in common?
I’m a huge believer in details and how important they are to everyday life. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 IW388102 is loaded with amazingly precise details— that to me is what we have in common.
I don’t complain or play victim to doubt. I do the work, and if it doesn’t work out the way I planned it, I pivot and start again.
PERSISTENCE IS KEY
What is the source of your boundless energy?
Gratitude, gratitude, and more gratitude. What an amazing life I get to live. I dedicate each and every day to something I absolutely love to do. I have amazing family, friends and team that support me through thick and thin. I have found my purpose, and for that I will always be grateful.
Have you ever experienced moments in your life where you doubted yourself?
Of course, we all have. I never let those thoughts turn into actions. I don’t complain or play victim to doubt. I do the work, and if it doesn’t work out the way I planned it, I pivot and start again. Persistence is key.
Share your childhood experiences and the qualities your parents instilled in you from an early age.
Man am I lucky to have been raised by such amazing people. Both my mom and dad were elite level gymnasts in their youth and became highly admired coaches further down the road. The qualities they instilled in me were all ones they had tons of themselves. To lead by example and have loads of integrity.

When did you decide to become a pro skateboarder?
When I look back I can’t think of one specific moment nor do I think that was the thought that got me to where I’m at now. My older brother Jett is the reason I’m the skater that I am. We both fell in love with skateboarding at the same time and my whole goal was to keep up with him. He skated the mega ramp with me and got invited to X Games before I ever did. He unfortunately had a bad accident skating mega ramp in 2012 and I made it a goal to make X Games that year in his name. The rest is history.
What keeps you focused before and during competitions? Any secret routines you’d like to share?
Music. I’ve used music as a familiar place to go under high pressure moments ever since I was a kid. I have tons of playlists I use to help me train, compete and relax. It’s been the routine ever since I can remember.
