IWC Schaffhausen

IWC Portugieser

In the late 1930s, these pocket watch-size nautical instruments inspired an unusual wristwatch: the Reference 325, based on a hunter pocket watch calibre, featured a simple chapter ring, Arabic numerals and slender feuille hands. The dial of the watch, which was later emblazoned with the name Portugieser, has remained virtually unchanged ever since. Its clear-cut, functional design looks every bit as fresh and contemporary as it did over 80 years ago. The Portugieser thus perfectly embodies the timeless modernity that distinguishes the IWC brand.

Now, for the first time, the new collection is entirely equipped with high-quality IWC-manufactured calibres. Even in its standard version, the popular Portugieser Chronograph is now fitted with the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre and features a seethrough sapphire-glass back.

IWC Portugieser Boutique Edition

The various models are available exclusively in IWC boutiques all over the world as well as online. The Boutique Editions are distinguished by a design element in the maritime-inspired colours gold and blue running throughout the line. All watches have cases in either 18-carat 5N gold or 18-carat Armor Gold®, a particularly hard version of 5N gold. A colourful highlight comes in the form of the blue dials and blue straps. Finally, in this new collection, two models also underscore the company’s expertise in the art of Haute Horlogerie.

Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 Boutique Edition

Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 Boutique Edition. Ref. 3442: Imagine: the evening sun reflects off the water and at the horizon sea and sky melt into one. With its exquisite design in blue and gold, the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 Boutique Edition brings the magic of a perfect day out on the ocean to your wrist. This special edition, available exclusively at our boutiques and online, features a dark blue dial, blue Santoni alligator strap and case made of 5N gold. Ticking away inside is the IWC-manufactured 82650 calibre with Pellaton winding and a 60-hour power reserve. It’s a timepiece that will ensure you leave a lasting impression at more than the captain’s table.

TIMELESSLY MODERN PORTUGIESER

Portugieser Automatic 40. Ref. 3583: With ancestors like these, you can’t go far wrong. The Portugieser Automatic 40 is a direct descendant of the legendary Reference 325 produced back in the 1930s. That first Portugieser featured a clean, uncluttered dial, distinctive chapter ring and small seconds at “6 o’clock”. And it laid the foundations for a modern design idiom that was every bit as fresh and contemporary back then as it is today. Our new self-winding model with the IWC-manufactured 82200 calibre now brings the unmistakable design to a case with a compact, 40-millimetre diameter. A watch, you could say, that was an icon from the moment it first saw the light of day.

A MODERN CLASSIC WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY

Portugieser Chronograph. Ref. 3716: The Portugieser’s functional design took its inspiration from the nautical deck watches once used on ships to assist marine navigation. The Portugieser Chronograph, with its clean, eminently legible dial, is a direct reminder of this heritage. At the same time, the two recessed subdials and the réhaut with its printed quarter-second scale imbue this timelessly elegant watch with a distinctive, sporty flair. This design classic is now powered by the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, which is visible through a transparent sapphire glass back. And with a precision instrument like this on your wrist, you can be sure of navigating your way through life with stylish understatement.

MASTERPIECE OF HAUTE HORLOGERIE

Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42. (Ref 3442): In the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42, IWC has for the first time integrated the iconic complication in an in-house movement from the 82000-calibre family. The IWC-manufactured 82650 calibre’s Pellaton winding system, which is fitted with ceramic components, builds up a power reserve of 60 hours. The displays for the date, month, day of the week, moon phase and leap year are shown in three subdials at “3 o’clock”, “6 o’clock” and “9 o’clock”. The watch, which has a 42-millimetre diameter, is available in stainless steel and 18-carat 5N gold.

ELEGANCE JOINS FORCES WITH SPORTINESS

Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph. Ref. 3907: A sporty, elegant design, rugged construction, high-level water-resistance and an IWC-manufactured 89361 calibre with flyback function: the new Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph is a winner all the way down the line. A totalizer at “12 o’clock” shows stopped hours and minutes and is easy to read, even in a heavy swell. The filigree bezel and thin casing ring lend a touch of unmistakable elegance to the 44-millimetre case, and the newly developed stainless-steel bracelet offers optimum comfort in wear. So, whether you make your appearance aboard a yacht or on terra firma, you can be sure your nautically inspired sports watch knows absolutely no compromises.
