The Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Rudolf Caracciola” Story

The Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Rudolf Caracciola” pays tribute to the exceptional achievements of Rudolf Caracciola. A top driver for Mercedes-Benz, Caracciola won three European Championships in Formula Grand Prix and crossed the finish line in first place in 144 of the 204 races he competed in. He was known as the “King of the Rain” due to his supreme driving ability in wet conditions. This model is limited to 750 watches and has a stainless steel case. The slate-coloured dial with a printed tachymeter scale and the rhodium-plated hands and appliqués lend this watch a technical yet elegant look. This timepiece comes with a brown calfskin strap that is specially embossed with a pattern inspired by the leather seats of classic sports cars.

Nobody had as big an influence on the era of the legendary Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows as Rudolf Caracciola. In the 1930s, the talented driver won three European Championships in Formula Grand Prix and crossed the finish line in first place in 144 of the 204 races he competed in. He also won the European Hillclimb Championships three times and set the record time at the Klausenrace in 1934. In 1938, Caracciola set the record for the highest speed ever reached on a public road – 432.7 kilometres per hour – on the autobahn in a Mercedes-Benz W 125. The Passione Caracciola rally honours the memory of the racing legend. The route of this regularity rally takes drivers past places to which Caracciola had a special connection. IWC Schaffhausen has been an official partner of the event since its first edition in 2015. The luxury watch manufacturer has paid tribute to the achievements of Rudolf Caracciola and the company’s partner Mercedes-Benz Classic with special editions such as the Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Rudolf Caracciola” and the Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “W 125”.

Calibre Family 69000
