Big Pilot’s Watch Constant Force Tourbillon
The Big Pilot’s Watch Constant Force Tourbillon features a 46.2-millimetre case crafted from 18-carat Armor Gold®. Thanks to an improved microstructure, this innovative material offers significantly better hardness values than conventional red gold alloys – a meaningful advantage for a watch of this size and presence, built to be worn and used every day. The gold case is complemented by a black dial featuring a louvred, ring-shaped structure.
The gold-plated hands are filled with Super-LumiNova® to ensure excellent legibility under all lighting conditions. A power reserve indicator is located at 4 o’clock. The signature Double Moon® display at 2 o’clock shows the moon as seen from both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, deviating by just one day every 577.5 years.
In keeping with the case material, the moon is shown in gold against a black background.
The watch is fitted with a black rubber strap featuring a comfortable Alcantara® inlay and a folding clasp made of 18-carat Armor Gold®. The centrepiece of this watch is the tourbillon with IWC’s patented constant force mechanism, located at 9 o’clock. This highly engineered and complex mechanism disengages the escapement from the direct flow of power through the gear train and transmits perfectly even impulses of force to the escape wheel.
As a result, even as the torque in the mainspring diminishes, the balance wheel oscillates with virtually the same amplitude. In combination with the tourbillon – which compensates for the negative effects of gravity on the oscillating system – this ensures exceptional rate accuracy. Driving this watch is the IWC-manufactured 94800 calibre.
To match the watch’s gold-and-black aesthetic, it has been fully blackened and is revealed through the sapphire glass case back. The movement is wound by hand and stores a power reserve of 96 hours in two barrels.
