PHOTOGRAPHER NINO MUÑOZ GIVES US A LOOK BEHIND THE SCENES ON THE SET OF IWC’S PORTUGIESER CAMPAIGN WITH SUPERMODEL GISELE BÜNDCHEN
Nino Muñoz, a Chilean photographer and director, is renowned for his unique style of blending fashion with classic celebrity portraiture. His impressive career includes capturing images of supermodel Gisele Bündchen, the star of our latest Portugieser campaign. Friends since the 1990s, Nino and Gisele share a special bond that enhances their collaborative work. In this interview, Nino discusses the comfort of working with a long-time friend, the dynamics on set, and the challenges of capturing the timeless elegance of the Portugieser.
How did your long-time friendship with Gisele effect your work on set?
It’s just very comfortable. I have been friends with her for such a long time that we can read each other's minds. It’s time well spent, especially for a campaign like this where you're also shooting a commercial. So, there’s not much talking because we both look at an image and instantly know what works and what doesn’t.
What do you appreciate most about working with Gisele?
First of all, her energy. There's nobody like Gisele. When she shows up, she takes the reins. She's such a kind human being. She makes everyone feel involved. You know, it takes a village to do these shoots. There are so many moving parts, but the most important part is the talent, and knowing what she's going to bring to the images.
It could be the photographer, stylist, makeup artist, hairstylist, or the creative director showing her what we're going for. She understands what we need to accomplish, which was all about the watches in this case. So, having a professional like Gisele makes everybody's job much easier.
How would you describe the atmosphere on set?
Playful and fun. If you don't have that then what’s the point? Look, our job is so amazing. We get to come together, meet people from all around the world, and fly to different locations – and we all have the same goal. It’s good to show up on set with a very positive attitude, have some fun, and take some beautiful pictures.

How did you capture the timelessness of the Portugieser in your images?
First, the lighting has to be right. Then, of course, the styling, the hair, the makeup. If the theme is timeless, we want to keep the makeup and hair very natural. Gisele was wearing very little makeup. She is known for this, and people hire her because she is this timeless creature and everyone relates to that.
What challenges did you face during the shoot?
Just making sure that we stick to the schedule. We were shooting outside on a roof deck, and she was shooting a commercial between our shots. So, we were sharing Gisele. The other challenge was the weather. The commercial was being shot outside, so I was shooting everything in daylight. No flash. Very classic. But it started raining, so we continued shooting with umbrellas and silks above her.
Is there a particular message you’d like your images to convey?
I would like people to see a woman who is relatable to many types of women. I was trying to portray a timeless woman wearing a timeless watch.
