The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Sharks” Story

Thanks to a collaboration between IWC Schaffhausen, the prestigious art publisher Taschen and the famous American photographer Michael Muller, the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Sharks” is available in a limited edition of 500 watches. The timepiece, housed in a stainless-steel case, is powered by the IWC-manufactured 89365 calibre. The chronograph is water-resistant to 30 bar and features a flyback function, automatic winding and a 68-hour power reserve. Dive times can be set using the mechanical external/internal rotating bezel, which, for safety reasons, can only be turned anticlockwise. The grey of the dial is inspired by the colour of a number of different species of shark, while the luminescent coating guarantees optimum legibility. The engraving on the case back depicts a group of swimming hammerhead sharks.

Charles Darwin Foundation

Charles Darwin Foundation

Coastal landscapes with black volcanic rock, scorched hillsides covered with cactuses and holy wood trees, mountain peaks shrouded in mist – the breathtaking landscape of the Galapagos Islands leaves visitors spellbound. The unique flora and fauna on the volcanic archipelago situated around 1,000 kilometres from the coast of Ecuador has developed over the past 4 million years. Many of the unique species known as “endemic”, such as giant tortoises, Darwin’s finches and marine iguanas are not found anywhere else on earth. However, human settlement, the introduction of foreign species and overfishing are posing a serious threat to this fragile ecosystem. The Charles Darwin Foundation, founded in 1959 under the auspices of UNESCO and the IUCN, is committed to the protection of the islands through its continuous research and educational work in collaboration with the Galapagos National Park Directorate and many other national and international institutions. IWC Schaffhausen has been a partner of the foundation since 2009, supporting the work of over 100 researchers, students and volunteers with a share of the proceeds from the sale of special edition Aquatimer watches.

Calibre Family 89000

The 89000-calibre family includes powerful chronograph movements with flyback function, which are used, for example, for the big digital date and month displays or for watches that display stopped hours and minutes on a subdial.
