THE COLORS OF TOP GUN:
WOODLAND
PILOT’S WATCH CHRONOGRAPH TOP GUN EDITION “WOODLAND”
The Pilot's Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” was the first IWC watch featuring a case in highly engineered, dark green ceramic.
THE COLORS OF TOP GUN: WOODLAND
“Woodland” is a ceramic color developed by IWC Schaffhausen. The dark green hue is inspired by the flight suits and uniforms worn by the elite pilots in the TOPGUN flight school and the vast forest landscapes these pilots fly over. IWC and Pantone® specified this color as IWC Woodland.
COMPREHENSIVE CERAMIC LEGACY
As early as in the 1980s, IWC experimented with different ceramic colors. Colored ceramics are created in a sophisticated process in which zirconium oxide is mixed with other metallic oxides and sintered at high temperatures in a kiln. Because the color changes during the furnace process, it takes countless trials and a lot of experience to define the right mixture.
MONOCHROMATIC DESIGN
The Pilot's Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” impresses with a spectacular, monochromatic design. In an elaborate color engineering process, all other components - from the dial to the hands, the rubber strap with textile inlay to the luminescent material - were perfectly matched to the ceramic color.
PRECISE AND RELIABLE
The IWC-manufactured 69380 calibre ensures the precise measurement of stop times of up to 12 hours. The chronograph movement in a classic column-wheel design was engineered with a focus on robustness, precision, and reliability. The movements are carefully assembled by hand and extensively tested at the IWC Manufakturzentrum in Schaffhausen.
