The Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Chronograph Edition “80 Years Flight to New York” Story
The special edition honours Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's transatlantic journey 80 years ago. In 1939, the French writer and pilot flew from Biscarrosse to New York in the Latécoère 521, "Lieutenant de Vaisseau Paris" flying boat. Fittingly, this model is likewise limited to 80 watches. The dial and city ring in the Timezoner's mechanism are tobacco brown, harking back to the colour of flying suits in Saint-Exupéry's time. The Timezoner function allows the wearer to set another time zone simply by twisting the bezel. The hour hand, the 24-hour hand and the date are also adjusted automatically. Paris and New York – the time zones marking the start and finish of Saint-Exupéry's journey – are depicted in red on the city ring. The watch is driven by the IWC-manufactured 89760 calibre, which is self-winding and has a 68-hour power reserve.
